News has been circulating that PEMRA, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, is thinking to implement a particular fee for online content creators. Authority It was brought in the discussion that PEMRA should charge all online web televisions while it is also decided that YouTube Channels, Facebook and Twitter Live shall also be considered web television and will be charged accordingly. According to sources, the fee will start from 50 lacs and can reach up to 10 million rupees.

The news started circulating right after Imran Khan held a meeting with digital content creators. While the current meeting was supposed to come up with constructive conclusions, it seems the meeting brought adversity instead.

The same news has also been broadcasted on BOL News where even more references are given to the news. While PEMRA authorities are silent about the issue, the dream of digital Pakistan doesn't seem to be coming true if such policies kept circulating.
